Alside Partners with Habitat for Humanity to Build Veteran a Home

To celebrate Veterans Day on Nov. 11, Alside is thrilled to share a heartwarming partnership with Habitat for Humanity to help fulfill a retired veteran’s dream of home ownership.

David Backes, who honorably retired from the United States Army in 1993 and earned several distinguished medals during his service, knows the meaning of resilience. When the conventional route to home ownership seemed out of reach, David and his wife, Sandra, turned to Habitat for Humanity for a helping hand.

After a rigorous selection process, the Backes family’s dream is set to become a reality and are soon-to-be proud homeowners in Peoria, Illinois, which has a large military population.

The Backes aren’t just receiving a home; they are actively involved in the construction process, underscoring Habitat for Humanity’s belief in providing a hand-up, not a handout.

Mr Backes told 25 News that he was shocked and excited to be chosen for Habitat for Heroes 2023.

“It’s unbelievable. I had no idea that I would be chosen for it,” he said.

“…it means the world to me, and it does not seem real.”

Alside is proud to have contributed to the Backes’ new home, donating stylish gray Conquest siding, which brilliantly combines easy maintenance with superior quality. It’s the perfect choice, offering a durable, low-maintenance and attractive home exterior.

Alside is honored to play a part in this incredible journey of hope and homecoming, standing alongside the Backes family as they take the steps toward owning their well-deserved dream home. Once the finishing touches are added, Habitat for Humanity will officially hand over the keys to the Backes family home in December.
