5 Home Exterior Design Trends for 2022

With a new year just around the corner, exterior home design trends for 2022 are starting to emerge. We anticipate a shift toward natural textures, a stronger connection to the outdoors and a minimalist approach to architecture. While farmhouse vibes are here to stay, we expect these five home exterior design trends to make a mark.

1. Natural Textures

Add warmth to your home’s exterior with blonde woods, hand-sawn beams and aged brick, which pair beautifully with white and black. Using materials that imitate the natural textures of rock or wood can create this look without the price tag. For wood columns, create a frame and add longboards of wood. Add stone accents along the bottom third of your facade to create depth and personalized curb appeal.

2. Dark Exteriors

While monochrome white will always be a popular house color, we’re seeing the rise of moody charcoals and deep blacks coupled with lighter siding and brick. This modern-chic color palette will make your home stand out from the crowd and let your neighbors know you’re on-trend. Nothing makes green foliage and beautiful gardens pop like a black-on-black backdrop. Use our online Visualizer tool to see what your home would look like with a dark exterior.

3. Black Accents

In the new year, black home accents will continue to rise in popularity. Swap out your exterior door hardware with matte black handles and locks. When replacing windows and doors, step away from white frames and go with black to make a bold design statement. Tie it all together by painting the frames surrounding doors and windows, along with any shutters, black.

4. All-season Outdoor Entertaining

Recent years have rekindled our love of outdoor living areas. If you don’t have a front porch or a backyard pergola, you’ll want to add this to your wishlist in 2022. Open up the back of your home with a large patio entranceway to extend your living space to the outdoors and make the most of the warmer weather. Combat the cold with a firepit, portable stove or outdoor heaters for year-round enjoyment.

5. Natural Light

Bright and airy interiors are on-trend for 2022, which means so are large panoramic windows. Is it time to replace your windows? New windows can enhance your curb appeal, improve energy efficiency and increase the value of your home, all while adding beautiful, natural light to your interior. Patio doors are another great way to let in more natural light and expand your living space.
