4 Ways to Refresh Your Home Exterior for the Holidays

December is a busy time with planning and preparation in the lead-up to the holidays. Before you put up decorations, ensure the outside of your house is tidied and crisp. Here are four ways to refresh your home exterior and maximize festive decor for the holiday entertaining season:

1. Clean Your Siding & Windows

Clean your siding and windows to boost curb appeal and provide a spotless surface for decorations. For best results, clean vinyl siding with mild soap, water and a soft cloth or long-handled, soft-bristle brush. Check the manufacturer’s instructions before using a pressure washer on your home exterior. Wipe window panes clean with a gentle glass cleaner. If you have the time, clean the exterior frame, sash tracks and screens.

2. Make Repairs

Make it a priority to repair damage to your siding, gutters, roofing and decking to protect your home and refresh the exterior. Inspect for signs your siding may need to be replaced, indicative through rotting and peeling planks. Fill any cracks and gaps in your siding and around windows and doors to help keep the heat in and pests out this winter.

3. Update Outdoor Lighting

Outdoor lighting can add ambiance and enhance security around your home this holiday season, especially as we have fewer sunlight hours. Light up your home with LED string lights and icicle lights, and check that all bulbs are working. Consider adding spotlights to high-traffic areas, paths and stairs.

4. Give Your Front Door a Facelift

Add festive flair to your front door with a fresh paint color, new door hardware and a seasonal wreath. Start the new year with smart technology and upgrade to a smart entry system with keyless entry and a doorbell with a built-in camera.
