4 Reasons Why Americans Are Updating Their Homes With Siding

A national survey conducted by The Harris Poll has revealed four reasons why Americans replace siding on their homes. More than half of American homeowners surveyed (53%) indicated they have installed new siding on their homes. Read on to learn why.

1. Damage

Thirty-nine percent of homeowners stated that damage was the reason for siding replacement. Several telltale signs indicate your siding needs replacing, from rotting and peeling boards to cracks and gaps. Durable siding, such as vinyl, composite cladding, and steel are impact- and moisture-resistant, resulting in a longer lifespan than some alternative materials.

2. Aesthetics

Thirty-six percent of those surveyed sought to increase their curb appeal with new siding, and 23% replaced their siding because they “didn’t like how their old siding looked.” These days, siding is available in a wide range of attractive materials, colors, and finishes to suit all styles of homes.

3. Energy Efficiency

Thirty-two percent of homeowners hoped to boost their home’s energy efficiency with new siding. Vinyl siding is a popular choice for environmentally conscious homeowners wanting to improve their home’s energy efficiency. Insulated vinyl siding can reduce heating and cooling costs further.

4. Maintenance

Thirty-two percent of homeowners wanted to reduce the maintenance required with their siding (E.g. painting, staining, caulking, and cleaning). Vinyl siding is one of the lowest maintenance cladding products on the market, requiring occasional cleaning with mild soap and a garden hose.
